They couldn't even let it ride through to the scheduled removal date - tomorrow. Was Jimi Hendrix gay? Army discharge records say so

Was Jimi Hendrix gay? Army discharge records say so The new Jimi Hendrix biography by Charles Cross called "Room Full of Mirrors" reveals a rather unexpected secret. According to official army records Hendrix was discharged for "homosexual tendencies." Cross says he wanted to leave the army so that he could be a musician and that he pretended to be gay so he could land a discharge. Hendrix's word on the departure was that he left the 101st Airborne Division in 1962 after being injured on a parachute jump. According to Cross and official records Hendrix told a base psychiatrist at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, that he had fallen in love with a fellow soldier. Could it have been more than a ploy? Who knows. Cross also says that Hendrix had a legendary appetite for women, including an affair with actress Brigitte Bardot.

Courtship interruptus. In recent weeks I've been running into the man more and more and the obvious heartstrings called for pulling out the punches, especially after the realization that this time around time may well be on our side. I invited him out to talk and whisked him away over the river and through the hills to a vineyard beneath a full moon - where Pat Benatar was performing no less. You could say I hit him with my best shot. And now, following a series of good dates, a farewell to a bisexual and a vision quest for him that yielded the most delightful results - at least as far as I'm concerned, I pulled the plug on my Queer Day personal ad and I'm making him the sole object of affection. More will be revealed, but in the meantime, if it looks like I'm slacking some on Queer Day lately, now you know why.

While doing so they appear to have used the scattershot approach and blocked over 700 domains ... uh... by mistake? I don't think they were being specifically homophobic - Queer Day got hit by the backspray along with a recycling company in Colorado, a breast-cancer fundraising site and over 700 more domains! There's a catch here though, they're both straight. "I think it's a hoot," Pinn said. The proposal came last Monday at a Toronto bar amid shock and laughter from their friends. But the two, both of whom were previously married and both of whom are looking for a good woman to love, insist that after the humour subsided, a real issue lies at the heart of it all. They want to shed light on the widespread financial implications. As for gay marriage, they're supportive anyway. "I disagree with the government getting involved with what people should and shouldn't do," Dalrymple said. "Stay out of the bedrooms."

Benitez (right), shown with her partner of 15 years Joanne and son Gabriel, sued her doctors and the North Coast Women's Care Medical Group in Vista, California, after they refused to perform artificial insemination on her because she's gay. Strong religious convictions prohibited them from doing so. The case, now awaiting a hearing at the 4th District Court of Appeals in San Diego, hinges on a conflict between the private religious beliefs of physicians and the state's anti-discrimination laws. Lawyers for Benitez argue that the doctors' stance, if allowed as a defense in court, would create a huge loophole in the Unruh Act, a state law requiring businesses to treat all people equally.

He's listed on the Virginia sex offender registry and prosecutors in Michigan say they recently were notified that Benjamin might be violating the terms of his probation. Authorities want to know if he's come into contact with any minors while at Dignity, and Dignity USA officials said they too are investigating whether Benjamin violated their policies. They hope to conclude their inquiry by the end of the week. The Catholic Church does not sanction Benjamin's return to the altar.

California Supremes put gay marriage issue back in the slow lane

California Supremes put gay marriage issue back in the slow lane The California Supreme Court decided not to rule on the constitutionality of gay marriage, at least for now, keeping gay marriage off-limits while leaving the issue in legal limbo. Attorney General Bill Lockyer and others wanted to sidestep the appeals court process in order to get a speedy ruling and asked the Supremes to review the case. Lockyer wanted the court to overturn the ruling and uphold state law. "We thought that the cases were ripe for a prompt and final resolution without having to go through the court of appeal." No suck luck Bill. The case will remain before the 1st District Court of Appeal in San Francisco, where it is likely to take months for a decision on the controversial issue that could face voters next year.

Homophobic TELUS IDOL shows Queer Day ban was no accident

Homophobic TELUS IDOL shows Queer Day ban was no accident Many Canadian readers were unable to access Queer Day for more than a month, prompting questions about this site banned in Canada? Then we discovered it wasn't just us, but that 700+ other sites were also blocked by TELUS in their union-busting attempt. Was Queer Day's block random? An inside source says it most likely wasn't and that homophobia at TELUS is widespread, evidenced by a videotape called "TELUS IDOL" that can no longer b viewed online "due to issues with the items content." What issues?

Homophobia in high school: One student's experience

Homophobia in high school: One student's experience Karlee Reid, pictured, took a stand against homophobia at high school and found herself in the psychiatrist's office. She tells her story. While Pickering High School isn't known for violence, it is certainly known for the homophobic students within it. After severe harassment caused a considerable amount of emotional upheaval in our school and home environments, my current partner and I, with the help of a mutually close friend, proceeded to post copies of a typed poem we wrote throughout the school expressing our opinions and feelings about the homophobic and harassing attitude of our peers. It wasn't long before we were intercepted. We found ourselves in the office.

Arizona drag kings and the Drag King Explosion!

Arizona drag kings and the Drag King Explosion! Drag king Shannon Moran is dressed as her male playa alter ego, Holden Cox. He's wearing a uniform shirt that announces he's with the "Male Escort Service," sporting a name tag that reads "Dick." Cox gets a kick out of walking through clubs and asking if anybody's looking for Dick. From the living room, somebody yells, "Nobody here is looking for that!" It's all part of a thick, meaty and lengthy piece on Arizona drag kings that claims the H.I.S. Kings in Columbus, Ohio, started the current drag king explosion.

Beverly Kills gay feature film gets distribution

Beverly Kills gay feature film gets distribution TLA Releasing has acquired rights to "Beverly Kills," the Damion Dietz comedy starring an aging drag queen hell-bent on revenge after she's refused a part in a community theater production of "Balls Out," a gay nude musical. Beverly Jackson (Gary Kelley) tells an unimpressed directing duo at the Pride Playhouse, "I was a semi-finalist on Star Search, when I was a child." And they still didn't take her? The injustice! Anyway, the film won the best men's feature award at the Fort Worth Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. It's Dietz's third feature effort following "Fag Hag," and "Neverland."

James Woods thinks straight white males have it bad

James Woods thinks straight white males have it bad James Woods has been whining about the sad state of affairs for straight white male actors. "In this politically correct era, the middle-aged heterosexual white guy gets to play one part, he gets to play the asshole in the suit. That's the only part they make anymore. That's the only part there is for a white heterosexual guy. Sorry, but it's the truth. ... He has to be a father who's a lousy parent, a terrible ex-husband, blah blah blah. You can't be a heterosexual white guy and be a hero anymore. You've gotta be really flawed and really bad and a piece of crap."

Ian McKellen: Coming out helped my career

Ian McKellen: Coming out helped my career Sir Ian McKellen, whose film Asylum opens today, told Newsweek he was "absolutely wrong in thinking coming out out of the closet wouldn't make a difference in his career. I became a better actor, and my film career took off in a way that I couldnt have expected. You cant lie about something so central to yourself without harming yourself. Acting in my case is no longer about disguise - its about telling the truth, and my truth is that Im gay. Im very happy for people to know that, and then I can get on with telling the truth about the character that Im playing. Thats why I can say to other actors: if you really want to be a good actor and a successful one, and youre gay, let everybody know it.

RuPaul doll launch featured RuPaul - out of drag

RuPaul doll launch featured RuPaul - out of drag You could practically hear the collective gasp at the launch of the RuPaul Doll at the Arcadia Gallery in New York when the legendary singer/actor RuPaul arrived - out of drag, showing up as RuPaul Andre Charles, the man beneath the make-up. While many were saddened he left his heels at home, the Mike Ruiz's larger-than-life doll photographs on the gallery walls were a great distraction. Billed as the first transvestite fashion doll you should be able to find the RuPaul Doll collection in stores later this month, with each doll's suggested retail price tag at $59.99. Expect the branding of RuPaul to continue. RuPaul greeting cards, wrapping paper and gift bags are apparently on the way.

Project Runway hasn't changed Jay McCarroll

Project Runway hasn't changed Jay McCarroll Quite possibly the queerest show on television last season, the emmy-nominated Project Runway is headed to DVD this November 29th. The 3-disc set contains the complete 1st Season with every episode, including the double-length season finale that saw Queer Day favorite Jay McCarroll win the crown. We don't think it's changed him, either. "I buy everything at the Salvation Army," McCarroll said, pointing to his jacket and shirt. His signature multicolored headwrap and patchwork pants are homemade. His flip-flops are from Old Navy. "I'm not a shopper," he says. "I'm supposed to come to the fashion industry to inject a dose of realism. The girls who were [jerks] in high school and are now the assistant to the assistant to the assistant at Vogue -- I'd rather live in a trailer than be a part of that group of people."

Queer Eye teams with The Apprentice to save Danny Kastner

Queer Eye teams with The Apprentice to save Danny Kastner Remember when the Queer Eye team showed up on The Apprentice? It's finally time for Bravo to return the favor. Danny Kastner made quite an impression on The Apprentice, that of a guitar-playing, warm-fuzzy nonsense blathering heterosexual male with really poor fashion sense. In the latest example of reality-TV cross-pollination, Kastner will be the subject of Queer Eye this week where we'll watch the Fab Five attempt to corral Kastner's scraggly hair and explain that leisure suits aren't a fit for today's corporate culture. Donald Trump will even be making an appearance, although we sincerely doubt that Kyan Douglas will be able to do anything about his hair.
