Gay Pride St. Louis scholarship choice creates controversy

Gay Pride St. Louis scholarship choice creates controversy In Missouri, Pride St. Louis gave Charles Stadtlander, the misguided 25-year-old president of the local Log Cabin Republicans chapter, their 2005 John Van Voris Scholarship. Activists booed and waved signs like "Log Cabin = Gay Shame" over the Log Cabin's refusal to acknowledge transgendered people in their mission statement. Primary critic Jeff Balk complained Stadtlander supported anti-gay candidates such as Governor Matt Blunt and President George W. Bush, which he proudly acknowledges, and called for Pride St. Louis to rescind its decision and apologize to the community. There's talk of conspiracy. Police were forced to load Stadtlander into a golf cart and escort him away from the public appearance. If only the cops could have saved him from being an idiot.
