Chris Carreiro suspended for saying teacher was being gay

In Swansea, Rhode Island, Joseph Case High School sophomore Chris Carreiro, 16, former class president, was suspended for telling a guidance counselor that a teacher was "being gay" last week. Carreiro said he was using "gay" as a synonym for "stupid" or "lame" and was not implying anything about the teacher's sexuality, as if that is somehow appropriate. While the school administration said Carreiro isn't giving the full version of events, that he was suspended for more than just the use of the word "gay," Carreiro says letters his family has received from the school corroborate his story.
