Canadian gay marriage bill gets fast tracked
Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin has put gay marriage on the fast track saying he wants to see same-sex nuptials become law by summer. “There’s no doubt that … it’s legislation that must pass,” Martin said. “And we want it to pass. And parliamentarians are here to do the job.” Jack Austin, the government leader in the Senate, said senators will sit well into July if necessary to pass C-38 and two crucial budget-related bills.
