Unveiling of gay legend Alexander Wood statue chock full of queer fun
Bagpipers, drummers, members of the ROTC (the Righteously Outrageous Twirling Corps, of course) and people in giant pineapple and kiwi costumes eagerly awaited the unveiling (2nd item) of Toronto's newest monument. Everyone cheers as the sheet, that had become stuck to the statue of gay pioneer Alexander Wood's head, finally slides off, revealing a 2.5-metre bronze man with frilly cuffs, a bulging crotch and a Superman tuft of hair hanging above his handsome, chiselled face. A plaque on the statue's base reads, "Alexander Wood 1772-1844." "I knew him," says Dora, a 73-year-old drag queen. "I used to date him when I was 12."�
