Mian Carvin fights for visitation with girl she raised

Mian Carvin has only recently been allowed to see the 9-year-old girl she considers her daughter again. She and Page Britain were together six years before Britain gave birth to the girl, and Carvin was a stay-at-home mom until the girl was 5 and the pair broke up. Now Britain is pulling rank as birth mom, trying to block all Carvin's rights to see the girl. She says it's because Carvin is a lousy parent. At the Washington state Supreme Court yesterday, lawyers for both women argued the thorny issue of what makes someone a parent in a case that could have broad effect on child-custody rights in Washington. Interestingly, Britain has married the gay friend who acted as sperm donor.
