Switzerland voters approve rights for same-sex couples
Swiss voters approved granting rights to same-sex couples on Sunday. It's the first time the subject has been put to a national referendum in Europe, even though the rights specifically are less. About 58 percent of voters were in favor seeing registered same-sex couples treated the same as married couples for tax and pension purposes. The vote didn't include child adoption or the ability to access fertility treatment. Switzerland also narrowly approved joining the European Union's passport-free Schengen zone. �
