Los Angeles City Council backs gay marriage
Los Angeles City Council backs gay marriage A resolution supporting a California state bill to give same-sex couples the legal right to marry was unanimously passed by the Los Angeles City Council. Councilman Eric Garcetti said. "This is a vote that makes sure that government is neutral, that it doesn't discriminate against any class of people, no matter how God created them, no matter who they are." Meanwhile, California's Senate Judiciary Committee passed the gay marriage bill 4 to 1 as well and the measure itself now goes to the Senate Appropriations Committee. Anyway, as for the Los Angeles measure, immediately after the 11-0 council vote the resolution was walked over to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's office who signed it and faxed it to Sacramento.[Date: 13-Jul-05 ]
