Latvian gay pride parade met with protest

The government said it wouldn\'t happen, but thanks to a court order the very first Gay Pride parade in Latvia was held this weekend in the capital of Riga. The marchers, however, were met by protesters hurling eggs and verbal abuse and as police surrounded the march to protect those taking part, a number of protesters were arrested. Police altered the planned route out of concern for the marchers safety, who were outnumbered by the homophobic opposition.  View more.... [Date: 25-Jul-05 ]
