Gay Nigerian sentenced to death by stoning

Gay Nigerian sentenced to death by stoning A man in Nigeria is on death row awaiting an execution by stoning after a Sharia court found him guilty of sodomy. Philip Alston, the U.N. special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, called for the entire process to be reviewed immediately in a statement. "Sodomy cannot be considered one of the most serious crimes for which, under international law, the death penalty can be prescribed. The punishment is wholly disproportionate," Alston said. Sharia law seems to be a little tricky, but recently ten Nigerian women were sentenced to death by stoning for having sex out of wedlock and the sentences sparked international outcries and the sentences were all overturned on appeal. Let's hope Alston's influence is able to do the same.
