Gay closeted cop Steven Rios gets life for Jesse Valencia murder Steven Rios, pictured, will spend the rest of his life in prison for the murder of gay University of Missouri college student Jesse Valencia, with whom he had been having a gay affair. His wife, Libby, attended the sentencing. Rios, 28, a Columbia police officer prior to the murder, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Rios plans to appeal and said justice had not been served. Queer Day and Circuit Judge Ellen Roper disagree.
