Transsexual groom Dr. Stephen Whittle first in UK to legally wed After 26 years together and a decade of campaigning, Dr. Stephen Whittle and Sarah Rutherford have finally gotten married. Yay! Whittle is the first transsexual allowed to legally get hitched in the UK thanks to the new change in the law. Whittle said, "We both thought it would be the one thing they wouldn't change. We thought we would get recognition, but being able to marry seemed impossible - you never, ever thought about it as even holding down a job down seemed impossible at times. Getting married wasn't about politics, it was about family, but without the politics it would never have happened.
