Georgina Beyer danced with the stars, wants more for charity
Georgina Beyer danced with the stars, wants more for charity Georgina Beyer, the world's first transsexual politician elected to parliament, danced her way into Australian living rooms on the hit television show Dancing With The Stars. The New Zealand Labour MP, as always, kept right on calling it like she sees it too, complaining that only about one fifth - between 20 and 28 cents - per text or phone vote actually went to charity. Beyer, who dismissed TVNZ's line that the charity aspect of the show was not necessarily the only motivation for viewers to vote, said the public should have been told. "So why bother involving the charities then? For me the charity aspect was a major motivator to do the program. It was a way of giving the public more of an incentive. I do have a feeling that the public have a right to know," she said. [Date: 28-Jun-05 ]
