French gay marriage anniversary action leaves priest injured


notre dame Gay rights activists performed a mock gay marriage between two lesbians at Notre-Dame Cathedral and a clash broke out with church security that resulted in a priest being injured. Act Up Paris members entered the cathedral and the fake wedding took some tourists and churchgoers by surprise. An activist dressed as a priest pronounced the two women married while others chanted: "Pope Benedict XVI, homophobe, AIDS accomplice." With security officials in pursit they fled the cathedral and Monsignor Patrick Jacquin suffered a minor neck injury as a result. The demonstration marked the first anniversary of France's first gay wedding, performed last year in the Bordeaux suburb of Begles. On a related note, the association "Mayors for children" announced they've collected 11,669 signatures from mayors against gay marriage in France. There are 36,000 mayors in the country.�
