British transsexual Christine Goodwin wins recognition, right to marry British transsexual Christine Goodwin won her battle in the European Court of Human Rights to be recognized as a woman and be allowed to marry. The 65-year-old told the court that English law had denied her the right to a new sexual identity and while the ruling doesn't immediately override UK law, judges will have to take the ruling into account. The court found no justification for barring Goodwin from enjoying the right to marry under any circumstances. The UK is one of four countries in the Council of Europe which does not recogniae a sex change as legally valid. The others are Ireland, Andorra and Albania.�
