Andre (or Andrea) Guthrie bank robbery tests gender identity Cross-dressing college student Andre Guthrie, 22, pulled a toy Glock on four Sovereign Bank tellers in Lowell, Massachusetts during his alleged bank robbery. He was wearing an auburn wig, bra and make-up at the time - which is problematic in that being convicted of armed robbery "while masked" requires a minimum of five years behind bars. His lawyers say he wasn't "masked" and was merely displaying his female alter-ego, Andrea Guthrie. In an affidavit Guthrie said, "I dress as a woman as much as possible and socialize with a similar and like-minded community. I have been exploring both elements of my psyche for the last eight or nine years.'' Throughout the robbery Guthrie threatened to shoot someone if they didn't give him the money.
