American gay immigration residency bill introduced

American gay immigration residency bill introduced New York Representative Jerry Nadler and Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy introduced H.B. 3006, the Uniting American Families Act (formerly known as the Permanent Partners Immigration Act), legislation that would allow Americans in same-sex relationships to sponsor their foreign partners for United States residency. Congressman Nadler says it's "a matter of basic fairness and compassion. Our immigration code recognizes that its excessively cruel to keep couples and families apart, and the Uniting American Families Act would simply extend that recognition to same-sex couples." It would add the term or permanent partner to those sections of the Immigration and Naturalization Act that apply to legally married couples.�
