SF Mayor Newsom blasts NY Mayor Bloomberg on gay marriage

newsom San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom criticized New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's inconsistency for publicly supporting gay marriage while challenging a court decision allowing it. "I think if you believe something, you've got to act on it. If you don't believe in it, don't act on it. But don't say you believe something and then do everything to stifle that belief." For those who haven't been paying attention, a judge in New York state's trial-level court ruled last week that the state's ban on gay marriages is unconstitutional. Bloomberg said New York would appeal the decision in order to get a definitive ruling from the courts and avoid the "chaos" that occurred in San Francisco. Newsom said, "Where was the chaos? ... It's just wrong to say that." And even in Switzerland, Newsom couldn't escape the accusation that he handed the Republicans a presidential victory last fall. At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the mayor was invited to a panel on red states vs. blue. And Newsom was defending himself, yet again.
