Gay marriage Canada: PM Paul Martin and Stephen Harper square off
Prime Minister Paul Martin (shown) kicked off parliamentary debate on his controversial same-sex marriage bill this week, suggesting real Canadians support letting gays marry. Conservative Leader Stephen Harper accused him of being intellectually dishonest, insulting, and of wrapping himself in the flag. Martin told the House of Commons that legitimizing gay marriage is a matter of protecting minority rights and the Canadian thing to do. "The people of Canada have worked hard to build a country that opens its doors to all . . . regardless of their differences," he said.National Post[Date: 18-Feb-05 ]
