British Columbia still coding being gay as mental disorder
Embarrassed British Columbia health officials are scrambling to correct a bizarre oversight in provincial paperwork that allows doctors to bill the Medical Services Plan for treating homosexuality as a mental disorder. Apparently we've been mentally defective since the 1980's when the code originated. Health ministry spokeswoman Michelle Stewart said, "If they put that code in, theoretically it would go through because it is recognized as a diagnostic code," adding they planned to remove the code as soon as possible.Canada.com[Date: 11-Feb-05 ]
