Grand Final Approaches - Naked Rugby Leaque calendar

Australian Naked AFL Rugby Calendar The Naked Rugby League calendar 2007, promoted as the "most provocative calendar ever released by an Australian football code," was released in Sydney to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Several of League's biggest stars are photographed nude in the calendar, which has already garnered controversy for the revealing nature of some poses. Many of the shots leave little to the imagination, but it is Youngquest's revealing pose - in which one hand is placed partially over his genitalia. Others to join Youngquest, Thurston and Hodges in baring all are New Zealand Test players Paul Whatuira and Brent Webb, as well as Ben Ross, Amos Roberts, Ashley Harrison, Riley Brown, Stuart Webb, Greg Bird, Michael Witt and Liam Fulton. The Bitch is Back ~ George Michael Kicks Off European

The Bitch is Back ~ George Michael Kicks Off European…

George Michael RingtonesA mature and modest George Michael took the stage in his first solo concert in 15 years, singing his greatest hits to 18,000 fans packed into Barcelonas Palau Sant Jordi arena.

The British pop icon kicked off his “25 Live” European tour, which will touch down in 28 cities before December 15, with a concert Saturday night that may well have been subtitled “the best of George Michael.”

With no new album to promote, the concert indulged an audience of mostly long-time fans with favorites like Faith, Father Figure and Too Funky, while also including newer hits.

The only envelope-pushing moment of the show came at the end of the first set, when Michael sang his 2002 controversial anti-Bush song Shoot the Dog.

During the song, an enormous balloon depicting a cartoon-ish George W. Bush rose out of center stage, drawing whoops and yells from the crowd.

But the real surprise came when Michael leaned down to unzip the balloon’s trousers, and out popped a British bulldog draped with the UK flag. The dog was stuck to the balloon’s inflated crotch, wagging its tail.

Where is the Popes apology to the gay community?

So while Benedict sits clean shaven, prawn sandwich in one hand, and pointing fingers with the other, why should anyone else have to put up with his misinformed personal insults?

PinkNews.co.uk’s Marc Shoffman asks whether the Pope should follow up his apology to Muslims with a retraction to every other community he has hurt.

Homophobia : Pope

So the Pope has met Muslim groups today offering his 'total and profound respect' for their community.

His apology comes after referring to a historical quote claiming the prophet Muhammad brought only evil to the world. Ok maybe a bit extreme but Benedict didn’t say it himself, yet a few burning effigies later and he is on his knees to the Muslim world, begging for forgiveness.

At the risk of seeing pictures of myself burned to death, I must ask all these angry Muslims to join the queue along with the gays, women, Jews and all those living in the 21st Century.

What about all the Jews the pontiff may have once intimidated as a member of the Hitler Youth? Or the women he enrages when he condemns abortion and contraception?

What about the bigotry he encourages every time he refers to the biblical belief that homosexuality is sinful and ignores disease, poverty and war to set up conferences particularly to address the life threatening issue of gay marriage?

If Pope Benedict XVI is going to apologise to the Muslim community he must be consistent and apologise to the gay community for every hate crime he encourages, to women for attempting to remove their right to choose if they want to have a baby, to every single parent he insults when he says a husband and wife is the only natural family structure.

While the Bible appears to condemn homosexual sex, it also condemns uninformed judgment, shaving and once banned eating shellfish.

So while Benedict sits clean shaven, prawn sandwich in one hand, and pointing fingers with the other, why should anyone else have to put up with his misinformed personal insults?

George Michael kicks off controversial show (didnt Madonna do that?)

George Michael has caused more than a whiff of controversy on the first night of his 25 Live tour this weekend.

In his first foray back into touring after 15 years, the 33-year-old singer made his political thoughts known during the performance of the controversial song Shoot the Dog.

George Michael Tour

A number of people reacted angrily to the video for the song when it was released in 2002 as it showed George Bush in a derogatory light and Tony Blair as his lapdog.

In keeping with this theme, during the concert an enormous balloon in the shape of the American president emerged from the stage. Michael then unzipped the trousers on the balloon to reveal a British bulldog nuzzling Bush’s groin and wagging his tail.

Attempting to promote his singing rather than the cheeky behaviour which has landed him in trouble in the past, Michael said: “As much as I’m going to disappoint those people who want to see more of my bottom, I’m going to be less of a showman and more of a singer.”

But it’s unlikely that a bit of controversy will do him much harm if he is able to follow in Madonna’s footsteps.

David and I saw Madge in Paris offending many religious groups with a mock crucifixion sequence in her Confessions tour. She had the entire Bercy stadium yelling “FUCK GEORGEBUSH”

The Devil Wears Prada, Tucci’s good in Gucci

The Devil Wears Prada, Tucci’s good in Gucci

David and I went to see The Devil Wears Prada at the Verona last night - EXCELLENT. I havent laughed so much in months. The script, the cast, the fashion!

The Devil Wears Prada Stanley Tucci Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci

Nigel, played by the talented Stanley Tucci, is yet another gay man living in Manhattan and working in fashion. Hollywood films are filled with secondary gay characters like Nigel, usually there solely for the sake of diversity and too often for comic relief.

Think Carson Kressley in The Perfect Man. Think creepy gay brother in Wedding Crashers. And especially think over-the-top gay couple in The Producers.

Yet Tucci, to his credit, plays the role without any of the stereotypical queen-like flamboyance that so often seems the obvious choice to play such characters. His Nigel, an employee for the high end fashion magazine Runway, is the one character smart and efficient enough to regularly please Runway’s ruthless, high priestess of fashion, Miranda Priestley (Meryl Streep). Even that, however, is done without the usual toadying that comes along with being the antagonist’s favorite.

It is also refreshing that the jokes in Devil do not come at Nigel’s expense or because of his sexuality. Not once did the audience chuckle because Nigel wore over-the-top outfits (Sanford Blatch on Sex and the City being a prime example), nor does he ever deliver a “You go, girl!” followed by two snaps up.

Nigel does serve as the film’s Henry Higgins to Andy Sach’s (Anne Hathaway, Brokeback Mountain) Eliza Doolittle. It is a role that gay’s are more than used to seeing themselves portray on screen. Again, think gay cousin in American Dreamz, or gay hairdresser in She’s the Man, each of the latter instrumental in an ugly-duck-to-swan make-over of another character.

Thankfully, Devil spares us the entire magic make-over montage. Instead, Nigel performs his wizardry on Andy merely by giving her a comp designer dress, designer shoes, designer coat, designer bag, designer underwear, and a swift trip to the beauty salon.

Nigel also gets to deliver the “Buck up, stop whining, and go out and conquer the world” speech that inspires Andy to get her act together and propels her into the second half of the film. The part Nigel plays may be small, but it is important for he is both wise and the only one to reach out to help Andy.

It’s somewhat of a surprise that Tucci, not exactly an unknown in the acting world, would have taken on such a small role that affords him comparatively little screen time. Of course, it’s always nice to see any actor, big or small, no longer fearing ostracism and professional ruin by going gay on screen.

Nonetheless, his role comes off as small potatoes. In fact, it could as easily been played by just about anyone, male or female, gay or straight. Nigel’s seemingly main function, performing the aforementioned speechifying and fashion make-over of Andy, is considerably less groundbreaking than Richard Dreyfuss’ gay role in Poseidon which at least gave gay filmgoers a gay character rarely seen in a big budget action movie–namely a brave one.

In fact, it’s definitely the women who come out the winners in Devil, by way of coveted juicy roles. Meryl Streep’s portrayal of Runway’s fashion maven, Miranda, is a genuine marvel. That she can manage to take on such a role–one that would have most actresses undoubtedly seeming to be merely an unadulterated witch–and imbue that potentially unsavory woman with complexities and nuances of character, even vulnerability, is pure acting craftsmanship.

For Streep then to make Miranda amusing, without making her laughable, is an example of the comedic genius that was hinted at in Prime but not nearly as well-realized.

The rest of the supporting cast provides great backup, including Fashion (with a capital “F”). Seldom, if ever has designer clothing played such an important part in a movie (or at least not since American Gigolo’s Richard Gere strutted around in his Armani wardrobe).

In Devil, Armani is forced to share billing with so many others in the fashion industry, appearing and disappearing in quick cameos, it’s hard to keep track. Heidi Klum, of Bravo’s runaway-success reality fashion series Project Runway, model Bridget Hall, and designer Valentino Garavani all make brief appearances.

As for the film’s somewhat shop-worn story line–sweet idealistic innocent confronts and copes with jaded big-city people and big-city living (think The Princess Diaries)–this incarnation is different enough and fun enough to entertain on its very own.

If there are some who may find the ending a tad Pollyannaish in its messages that idealism can win out over materialism and greed, that even villains aren’t nasty to the core 24/7, remember that this is billed as a comedy/drama not vice-versa. As mainly a comedy, its main objective is to make you feel good, especially at the end. Objective achieved!

Anti-gay bishops vote to split the evangelical church in two

Anti-gay bishops vote to split the evangelical church in two Anti-gay bishops vote to split the evangelical church in two - World - Times Online Anti-gay bishops vote to split the evangelical church in two By Ruth Gledhill, Religion Correspondent LEADERS of the Anglican Church’s conservative wing took the first steps yesterday in creating formally a new Church structure for anti-gay evangelicals in the United States. After meeting in Rwanda, archbishops from the 20 African and Asian provinces in the Anglican “Global South” grouping said that they understood the “serious implications” of their decision. But they added: “We believe that we would be failing in our apostolic witness if we do not make this provision for those who hold firmly to a commitment to historic Anglican faith.” The primates will now push for a two-Church solution in the US. This could serve as a model for Anglican provinces elsewhere with liberal majorities and strong conservative minorities, such as in England, Wales and Scotland. They are to develop an alternative Anglican structure in the US for the seven episcopal dioceses who appealed this year to the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, for alternative primatial oversight. Their appeal came after the general convention of the Episcopal Church, when a female and pro-gay primate, Bishop Katharine Schori, was elected to succeed Frank Griswold as leader of the Episcopal Church. The conservatives are also angry that the Episcopal Church has stood by the election of the openly gay Gene Robinson as Bishop of New Hampshire.Digg it This entry was originally published at Techstickle

Costello defends Pope’s Islam comments

Costello defends Pope’s Islam comments Costello defends Pope’s Islam comments - Breaking News - National - Breaking News Treasurer Peter Costello has defended Pope Benedict XVI over his controversial comments on Islam, saying the violent reaction was about the stifling of free speech. In an address to a Christian gathering in which he attacked the efforts of Islamic extremists to force their views on nations, Mr Costello urged his audience to read the Pope’s speech and wonder at the violent reaction. It’s the second time in recent months the treasurer has opened up on the subject of Islamic extremism, earlier calling on those who would introduce sharia law to Australia to look for another country in which to live. “How can one religion exercise the freedom to speak on its values, its faith, without prompting a violent response from other religions?” Mr Costello told the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) national conference in Canberra.Digg it This entry was originally published at Techstickle
