Transamerica wins Best Feature at Frameline29 Frameline29, the world's largest and oldest Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender International Film Festival in San Francisco, announced their awards with Duncan Tucker's "Transamerica," starring Desperate Housewife Felicity Huffman, pictured, capturing Best Feature. The film tells the tale of a transsexual who discovers a long-lost son arrested for prostitution. Sasha Aickin's "Blood, Sweat, and Glitter chronicling drag queens vying to become Miss Trannyshack 2004, was honored as Best Documentary. Frameline29 featured 266 films representing 33 countries.�

When the tally was announced gay and lesbian activists cheered, embraced, waved to lawmakers and blew them kisses. The law sponsored by Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and his ruling Socialists with Zapatero saying, "We were not the first, but I am sure we will not be the last. After us will come many other countries, driven, ladies and gentlemen, by two unstoppable forces: freedom and equality."�

ABC cancels homophobic Welcome to the Neighborhood "Welcome to the Neighborhood," the ABC reality series, has been cancelled. Queer Day is applauding. Let me tell you about it. The show premise had families being asked to pick a new neighbor in order to expose them to differences and overcome their biases. Sounds good in theory at least, right? Three conservative white families in Austin, Texas, were given a neighborly choice between a black family, hispanic family, asian family, two gay white men who've adopted a black child, a couple covered in tattoos and piercings, and a poor white family. Affection between the gay men provoked disgust. Viewers were to be treated to racist, classist, homophobic programming each week. Thanks for figuring it out ABC.�

Alberta considers fighting Canadian gay marriage law Alberta's justice minister Ron Stevens has refused to admit defeat in his battle against gay marriage, only to basically do so, more or less. He said Wednesday that the province is considering going to court to challenge Canadian Bill C-38, the federal legislation that was passed in Ottawa this week allowing for gay marriage in Canada. Stevens, however, did concede that his efforts would basically be moot because the federal legislation, when it becomes law, would take precedence over Alberta's Marriage Act anyway. The Act defines marriage as between a man and a woman. The new federal law amends that definition to "two persons." Stevens wants to challenge the law, and then says, "I know what the outcome will be."�

Without comment the unanimous verdict upheld appellate and trial court rulings that the measure does not conflict with a voter-approved initiative defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman.
